Baratza Forté AP (the BG is a brew grinder): espresso grind setting
Start at macro and micro setting 2K for a medium roast. Finer is either lever up (a lower macro number).
Where to start
- Light roast: macro and micro setting 2K. Medium: macro and micro setting 2K. Dark: macro and micro setting 2K.
- One small step: 1 macro and micro setting.
- Zero point: Baratza's chart puts espresso at 2K, which is also about where the burrs touch from the factory. Grinding there with beans in is safe; never run it empty at that point. (The manual's calibration steps set contact at 2Q instead, so check yours.)
- Fine-tune with the micro lever and keep it mid-range when you move the macro lever; adjust with the motor running.
- The Forté BG has steel burrs and is sold for brewing, not espresso.
The light and dark starting points are two small steps either side of the medium one: our rule of thumb, not the maker's.
