Niche Zero: espresso grind setting
Start at dial number 12 for a medium roast. Finer is a lower number (funnel clockwise).
Where to start
- Light roast: dial number 10. Medium: dial number 12. Dark: dial number 14.
- Usual espresso range: 10 to 20 (dial number).
- One small step: 1 dial number.
- Zero point: Check calibration if your numbers seem off: brush out, then turn only the bottom bezel until the indicator sits on the calibrate mark (burrs touching). Never grind at that mark.
- Niche's own guide: espresso is typically 10 to 20; start around 15. We start at 12 instead: that is about where 35 Niche owners' logged espresso shots sit (median 11, middle half 9 to 16; public shots on Visualizer.coffee, October 2026). Owners' numbers differ with calibration.
The light and dark starting points are two small steps either side of the medium one: our rule of thumb, not the maker's.
