Casabrews CM5418 / 5418 PRO: your first espresso shot
Start with 14 g of coffee in and 28 g in the cup (1:2) for a medium roast. The grind number depends on your grinder: find yours below, then taste and adjust.
The recipe
- Dose: 14 g (the 5418 PRO manual gives 13 to 15 g for the 2-cup filter; the CM5418 manual gives no figure).
- Stop at: 28 g in the cup (1:2) for a medium roast. The 1 CUP / 2 CUP buttons stop by a programmed volume. On the 5418 PRO the same button also stops the shot (its manual calls them start/stop): press it when the scale under the cup reads your target weight. On the CM5418, use its volume programming as a stop button: hold 1 CUP for 3 seconds, press 1 CUP to start, and press it again when the scale reads your target. That stops this shot and saves the amount for next time. Use 1 CUP even for a double: the manual sets the 2 CUP amount at 80 ml or more, more water than a double shot needs (Casabrews manual, "Programming the volume").
- Temperature: No temperature control. It preheats by itself at power-on: wait until the lights stop flashing. On the CM5418, after steaming run hot water from the wand for about 8 s to cool the boiler: until you do, its overheat protection blocks brewing (the 1 CUP / 2 CUP lights flash).
Your grinder is better than your basket. Stock baskets on this machine are pressurised, so grind changes do little; a 51 mm single-wall basket is the upgrade that unlocks it.
Where to start on your grinder
Starting settings in each grinder's own numbers. They are starting points from the makers' published ranges, not a guarantee: taste decides. Tap a setting for the full recipe with your roast and the next-shot fix, or a grinder for its light and dark starting points. With the pressurised basket, start a few steps coarser.
