Breville Dual Boiler: your first espresso shot
Start with 18 g of coffee in and 36 g in the cup (1:2) for a medium roast. The grind number depends on your grinder: find yours below, then taste and adjust.
The recipe
- Dose: 18 g (use about 1 g under your double basket's rating).
- Stop at: 36 g in the cup (1:2) for a medium roast, 45 g for a light roast. The 1-cup and 2-cup buttons default to 30 s. Use MANUAL and stop when the scale reads your target weight.
- Temperature: Temperature: 92 °C. MENU > SHOT TEMP, 86 to 96 °C (default 93 °C).
- Pre-infusion: Programmable: duration (default 7 s, Breville suggests 5 to 15) and power (default 60, suggested 55 to 65). Longer pre-infusion lets you grind finer.
- Check: the first drips should appear after about 9 to 14 s. Much sooner means grind finer; much later, coarser.
Where to start on your grinder
