Breville Barista Express Impress: your first espresso shot
Start with 18 g of coffee in and 36 g in the cup (1:2) for a medium roast. The grind number depends on your grinder: find yours below, then taste and adjust.
The recipe
- Dose: 18 g (the 2-cup basket holds 16 to 19 g).
- Stop at: 36 g in the cup (1:2) for a medium roast, 45 g for a light roast. Ignore the 1-cup / 2-cup presets (they stop by volume or time). Start the shot by hand and stop it when the scale under the cup reads your target weight.
- Temperature: Temperature: leave the default (93 °C).
- Pre-infusion: Pre-infusion is fixed; holding the button by hand stretches it.
- Check: the first drips should appear after about 8 to 12 s. Much sooner means grind finer; much later, coarser.
Where to start on your grinder
